The purpose of this project is to begin implementation of several recommended actions contained in the Pinal County Joint Land Use Study (JLUS), completed in 2021. This Compatible Use (CU) Implementation Project, initiated in January 2022, addresses land use compatibility planning around the four Arizona Army National Guard (AZARNG) sites in Pinal County: Rittenhouse Training Site, Florence Military Reservation, Picacho Peak Stagefield, and Silverbell Army Heliport. Like the JLUS, this project is funded by a grant from the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, with a 10% local match by Pinal County, the grant sponsor. Pinal County serves as the project manager and is responsible for continuing to coordinate the collaborative partnership among the many stakeholders in this region that support the AZARNG military missions, training facilities, and operations in the county. The key stakeholders/partners will be the same ones that were instrumental in developing the JLUS recommended actions, several of which are part of this compatible use implementation project.
The specific JLUS recommended actions being developed in the first phase of Compatible Use Implementation include:
- Military Compatibility Overlay Zoning Ordinance
- (as an amendment to the Pinal County zoning ordinance)
- Military Compatibility Element
- (as an update to the Pinal CountyGeneral Plan)
- AZARNG Economic Impact Study
- Military Compatibility Educational Materials
